How dry ice worksThree physical effects that remove dirt without water or chemicals.
How dry ice cleans: an animation in four stepsA gun with a slim nozzle fires dry-ice pellets at metal covered with a thick layer of dirt and rust. 1 Impact: the pellets hit the layer and knock particles out of it. 2 Thermal shock: the dirt cools to −78.5 °C, frosts over and cracks. 3 Sublimation: on impact the pellets turn into CO₂ gas, which expands in the cracks and under the layer and lifts it off. 4 Result: clean, undamaged metal without water, chemicals or abrasive; the nozzle moves on and leaves a clean strip behind.−78.5 °CCO₂
Step 1 of 4

Impact

Dry ice (CO₂) pellets of about 3 mm travel in a stream of compressed air and hit the dirt.

Step 2 of 4

Thermal shock

Dry ice is −78.5 °C. The dirt cools down sharply, turns brittle and cracks.

Step 3 of 4

Sublimation

The ice turns straight into gas and its volume grows more than a hundredfold. The gas lifts the dirt off the surface. No water or abrasive is left behind.

Step 4 of 4

Result

A clean surface without water, chemicals or abrasive – the pellets vanish without a trace.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe for paint and electronics?

Dry ice is non-abrasive and does not conduct electricity, so it is also used on painted surfaces and near electrical installations. We assess every case at the inspection.

When is the method not suitable?

Dry ice is not enough for heavy, deep rust, that is where we use the laser. The laser removes coatings, so it is not for places where you want to keep the paint. If a method makes no sense, we'll tell you straight away.

How long does cleaning take?

It depends on the scope and how dirty it is. You get a time estimate together with the offer after the inspection.

Does anything need to be taken apart?

Usually not. If something needs to be removed or covered, we agree on it in advance.

Do you take small jobs?

Yes. Tell us what you need and, based on the photos, we'll suggest whether the workshop or a site visit makes more sense.

Do you work abroad?

Yes, we work in Czechia, Slovakia and Germany. We speak Czech, Slovak, German, English and Ukrainian.

How much does cleaning cost?

Indicative prices for cars are listed above. We set the final price after the inspection: a base price plus any extras, such as disassembly or heavy dirt.
